But when I stood at the front of the chapel, I was struck by the sea of different shades of brown filling the room. There was dark brown, mid-brown, light brown, tan, rust, camel, chocolate, and so many other variations. Each person had interpreted the request in their own way, choosing a shade that felt right to them.
This simple yet powerful moment is a perfect reflection of how perception shapes our understanding of the world around us.
Even when we think we are being clear—whether giving instruction, setting expectations, or explaining an idea—each person will interpret it through their own lens, shaped by their experiences, background, and emotions.
