A Fresh Take on Connection and Leadership
In leadership, it’s tempting to chase big strategies, shiny plans, or slick tools. But sometimes, the most powerful shifts come from the smallest actions.
Silvia Damiano from About My Brain Institute recently reflected on deep connection and human-centred leadership in her blog posts – notably around how neuroscience shapes meaningful interaction and resilience. While she explores big themes, it got me thinking:
What if leadership simply began with presence and small, intentional acts of connection each day?
Tiny Habits That Lead to Deeper Connection
- Pause Before You Speak
Before offering input, pause. That moment of calm allows your brain to shift from reactive to relational, and invites trust.
- Listen with Your Curiosity, Not with Your Answers
Ask one thoughtful question after someone speaks. Even just one well-chosen question can make someone feel profoundly seen.
- Acknowledge Emotion
Name what you’re sensing – whether it’s tension, fatigue, or excitement. Acknowledging emotion isn’t weakness. It’s human, and it builds connection.
- Celebrate Small Wins
Notice and name one small win – either yours or someone else’s. It recharges our brains and reminds us what matters most: progress and presence.
Your Challenge This Week
What’s one tiny gesture you could add to your interactions this week to deepen connection?
- Could it be a thoughtful pause?
- A meaningful question?
- Naming an unspoken emotion?
- Celebrating someone’s effort?
Pick one. Do it mindfully. Notice what shifts in your energy and relationships. Let me know how you go.
But if this feels impossible for you……. Read on. I may be able to help.
