Using curiosity, connection, and tools like the i4 Neuroleader™ Model to deepen leadership and self-awareness
Last week, I facilitated a leadership training session that reminded me just how powerful simple tools can be when they’re used with purpose.
At the beginning of the session, I introduced a set of Heart 2 Heart Conversation Cards by About My Brain, which are designed to spark meaningful conversations aligned with the i4 Neuroleader™ Model.
At first glance, they seem simple, prompts for reflection, dialogue, and connection. But once we began the activity, I saw how quickly the room shifted.
People opened up.
They paused. They listened. They leaned in.
In just a few moments, the group moved beyond surface-level small talk into stories that were honest, rich, and deeply human. I watched people share stories they hadn’t expected to tell, and others respond with encouragement, curiosity, and empathy.
What stood out most?
Participants didn’t just feel heard, they felt valued
They weren’t sharing for the sake of the exercise. They were being genuinely listened to. And in that space, many experienced a quiet but profound increase in self-worth.
A Personal Shift
I joined the exercise too. One card prompted me to share a story I had always labeled as “sad.” And as I began to talk, others listened with curiosity and care.
They asked me thoughtful, open questions.
And somewhere in that gentle exchange, my story shifted.
What started as a “sad” story became something else entirely, a story of gratitude, resilience, and growth.
That’s the beauty of curious leadership: when we ask the right questions, we don’t just learn about others, we discover something new about ourselves.
